General Electric employees Al Cavalieri (left) and Lloyd Pedersen were the last passengers to board the flight headed to Boston. If Lloyd had to be on a plane, he longed for the time when everyone dressed in their Sunday best. To Lloyd, he looked like just another hippie - they were everywhere these days. Even though the cabin was dimly lit, he was wearing dark sunglasses, as well as a ragged suede coat. Sandy, the stewardess, was walking toward the cockpit, trailed closely by a young, thin guy with thick sideburns and shaggy brown hair. When he glanced to the left, though, he spotted something bizarre. Lloyd could see Boston’s lights coming into view out the window. The plane would soon be making its descent. Just after 8 p.m., the pilot turned on the fasten seat belts sign. She was pleasant and efficient, and soon moved on to the row behind them. Airlines subjected stewardesses to regular weigh-ins, and many women resorted to diuretics and laxatives to stay below their mandated limits. All three were in their 20s, attractive, and slim - they had to be. A third stewardess, who had black hair, was in the back of the cabin. One of the stewardesses was blonde, the other brunette. Lloyd eyed him enviously - he was always too anxious to sleep on flights. Others flipped through magazines to pass the time, including one who perused a Reader’s Digest article titled “Is There a Substitute for God?” The man in the window seat next to Lloyd and Al dozed. ![]() When the no smoking sign went off, passengers were free to light their Winstons and Marlboros. And who could deny that the small arms weapon is a necessary implement in any military arsenal. Granted, the military came to NY for a (PR) show of hardware. In image #1, are we witnessing a loss of innocence, or, in our violence-saturated culture, simply the lack of it? In #2, factoring those facial expressions the girl’s “girlish” and incredible “Go Nuts” top the face paint (kids love face paint) and the fingers on the triggers, I’m wondering, is this the new cover of the American family album? And, in #3, besides the appeal to gangster chic, there is no escaping the double entendre of “a boy’s equipment.” I was interested in how these three images, all emphasizing the hand gun, have a slightly different pull. Today, I’m interested in a more narrow aspect of these gun-saturated images, which is the prevalence of hand guns in these exhibitions. In the second post, I focused on military recruitment and race. In the first post, I noted the public’s unremarkable response to American militarism and the public display of weaponry. Today, I offer the last in a series of posts featuring images by photojournalist Nina Berman of this year’s Fleet Week naval extravaganza in NYC. ![]() 5/16/2023 0 Comments Psp colin mcrae dirt 2![]() ![]() The two other available modes are the action mode (single races, time races and championships) and the challenge mode with 20 challenges divided into five categories: air time (using ramps to accumulate air time), trailblazer (circuit races against time), gatecrasher (checkpoint races), powerslides (performing long slides) and last man standing. My answer is simple: it generates a massive amount of productivity. Sometimes people ask why I bother with such a detailed level of planning. But perhaps the biggest champion of time blocking today is author Cal Newport, who’s written extensively on the topic and his motivations behind the technique: Sunday is reflection, feedback, strategy, and getting ready for the week.įormer Microsoft CEO Bill Gates and Tesla/SpaceX founder Elon Musk are fans of time blocking, too. Friday is focused on the company and the culture and recruiting. Thursday is focused on developers and partnerships. ![]() Wednesday is focused on marketing and communications and growth. On Monday I focus on management and running the company… Tuesday is focused on product. Jack Dorsey, the former CEO of Twitter, is an advocate of the technique, saying: So it’s no surprise that several top performers and managers of large companies use the time blocking method today. And they all come with calendars, making time blocking easier than ever. Today, digital devices are everywhere, from our wrists to the phones in our pockets. Much has changed since the paper days of Benjamin Franklin, of course. You’ll notice that he does not go into detail but simply marks off big blocks of time. Franklin divided his day into several large blocks for Work, Planning, Reading, and Sleeping. Benjamin Franklin was one of the early pioneers, and he stuck to a strict time blocking routine or schedule. Time blocking isn’t new: the practice goes back centuries. It’s also more convenient to duplicate blocks, make blocks recurring, link items inside blocks to files or apps, etc. Reshuffling blocks on a calendar or inside an app is fast and easy. ![]() Others use a pencil with an eraser.ĭigital tools offer more flexibility than a paper page. Some people prefer using sticky notes with different colors for easy rearranging. You simply mark off times and add tasks for each time slot. A physical one works just as well as a digital one. The ingredients for time blocking are simple: a calendar or a schedule. But in general, time blocking refers to carving out big chunks of time on your daily calendar to make progress on tasks. Some people have taken the method as far as micro scheduling and take into account every single activity in a day. And in some cases, time blocking has been referred to as “ hyper-scheduling”. Some would say time blocking is a way of scheduling your work. In practice, you divide a working day or even a week into several blocks of time, each with their own to-do item(s). Time blocking or time chunking is a productivity method that divides a period of time, usually a single day, into predefined units of time and has you assign specific tasks to each unit. But how does it work? And how do you get started? What are the pitfalls, and how do you set yourself up for success? Finally, can apps help you become a time-blocking superstar and be more productive? It’s a method with a long history, famous practitioners, and many fans. What’s the most efficient way to plan your day and get things done? Is it a list of tasks sorted by importance, urgency, or energy? Is it a list of 3 big rocks you need to complete today? Or is it dividing your day into strict time units with clear tasks for every unit? If the latter appeals to you or you’re wondering whether it could work for you, it’s worth exploring the productivity technique called time blocking.

Make sure something holds up the water below the left water blob (I use a door here, but anything works, even a heavier liquid). ![]() You can use any you want, provided they do not allow gas to move through. Keeping gasses trapped requires solid tiles or liquid remaining on all sides. The waterfall works because of the one-element-per-tile mechanics in the game. You need 2 different gasses in the middle region. The upper right liquid drips through two gasses, and appears in the lower left. This flows right-to-left since the higher liquid is on the right side. ![]() This provides a way to setup the thing before you let it start.Įssentials to keep in mind (for any build)įlow is determined by top/bottom. The waterfall won't start working till you destroy both airflow tiles. You can instead use airflow tiles (provided you are underwater or in vacuum) where the gas pipe segments are, and then deconstruct the gas pipes in any order. If you're lucky, you can trap the gasses from the surrounding environment (when not underwater), and just build the thing without any piping. You can also use bleach stone and polluted dirt or oxylite to bring the needed gasses to the middle room. Then build solid tiles over the gas pipes and deconstruct them (to make the middle vacuum). Before deconstructing the two gas pipes, put liquid in the two needed spots (a bottle emptier makes this really easy). Build the solid tiles as before, and bring one pipe segment of gasses to the appropriate spots. You can drain the entire subsurface ocean biome very quickly. Wait a few moments, and any liquid above will pass through the fall (625kg/s for water). If you deconstruct the bottom pipe first, then the gas moves upwards and upon deconstructing the top pipe you get mass deletion. Then deconstruct the BOTTOM gas pipe second. The water gets displaced and the top gas occupies the top region. This tile is needed to prevent the diagonal bypass pump from sucking out gas. You can make this tile at the start, or later on, but it is required to prevent the bypass pump from ruining things. Notice BELOW that I have added one more insulated tile to the right on the top of the structure. You can pipe away all other unneeded gas, and remove the pipes that brought you to this point. A bridge connecting to a single pipe segment guarantees you will only get one pipe segment worth in the needed spot. Pipe in two gasses (heavy gas needs to be piped into the bottom, and lighter gas to the top). How to make an escher waterfall, while being completely submerged in the liquidĬreate the surrounding structure, with a bridge leading into the two spots you want air (and a single pipe segment ready to receive gas). This let's you pump crude oil at 250kg/s, water at 625kg/s, etc. The only limiting factor on the flow rate is the viscosity rating, as flow is capped at 5 times this value (see to obtain that value). You can use these to pump magma up to the surface without power, cycle large amounts of coolant from hot to cold areas, and so much more. (And yes, I use the MaterialColor mod by I love it.) I even created an alternate mini-guide for making escher waterfalls in that post. Both I used these recently to construct 90kg/s (or greater) crude to petro boilers. The escher waterfall above I use for infinite liquid compression, but the uses are much more than just that. If you are not sure what an escher waterfall is, here is an example that I'll show how to make in this guide. (I'm sure it's not new to many veterans, but figured I'd share.) I have never seen a guide for building one underwater. This guide shows how to easily make one, and even make one underwater at the bottom of a huge reservoir if you want. I give all credit to and the many others who have contributed to the development. The original discovery happened here, with lots of improvements since. If you want to move liquids rapidly, at no power, then learning to construct escher waterfalls is a crucial game-changer. ![]() |
